Accessibility
Armenly should be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, or neither.
Keyboard shortcuts
Available on the web app whenever a text field is not focused.
- Space or K — play / pause
- J — back 10 seconds · L — forward 10 seconds
- Shift + Right — next track · Shift + Left — previous track
- Up / Down — volume · M — mute
- S — shuffle · R — cycle repeat
- 1 to 9 — jump that far into the song · 0 — back to the start
- Tab — move between controls, the scrub bar and the volume among them; then the arrows, Page Up / Page Down and Home / End move the one you have landed on
- A keyboard with play, pause, next and previous keys drives the player with those too
On the lock screen, in the car, and on your headphones
Whatever is playing is handed to the system as a proper now-playing entry — the title, the artist and a square cover — so the controls you already have work without opening the app.
- The lock screen and the notification shade: play, pause, next, previous, the scrub bar and 10-second skips
- CarPlay and Android Auto over a cable, and any car stereo or headset over Bluetooth, reach the same controls
- Headphone buttons and a keyboard’s media keys are the same thing again — one press is play or pause, and a double press is the next track where your device sends one
- On the iOS and Android apps the buttons are play, pause, the scrub bar and the 10-second skips; next and previous are on the app’s own screens
Gestures on a phone
Every gesture is a shortcut to something you can also tap — there is nothing you can only reach by swiping.
- Drag down — close the player, the queue, or a song’s menu. Let go early and it springs back. The close button in the corner does the same thing
- Swipe the cover left or right — next or previous track
- On the mini player: swipe up to open the player, left or right to change track
Screen readers
Every control carries a descriptive label, toggles report their pressed state, every song has a “more” menu reachable without a long press, and the scrub bar exposes its position and duration as an adjustable value.
Visual design
- Text and controls meet WCAG AA contrast in the dark theme, and more than that in High contrast. A test checks the palette rather than an eye
- Anything you tap is at least 32 points, and on a phone 40 or 48. Keyboard focus shows a visible ring
- Album art falls back to a plain tile with a music note, never a blank box
- Armenly is a dark app — the covers are composed against it. High contrast strengthens the text, accents and borders; “follow my system” turns it on when your device asks for more contrast
- Colour is never the only signal: a playing track shows moving bars, a liked song a filled heart, and every message an icon and a word
- If you have asked for less motion, nothing moves
